We love the full-bodied coffee that comes from the French press method. The texture is heavier and denser than a pour-over. If you’re wondering about the science behind the French press, it is an immersion brew method, where courser coffee grounds are fully immersed in water before being strained through a metal filter. The metal filter allows oils and undissolved coffee particles to pass into the cup. Simple and delicious, the French press is the go-to method for people from all walks of life.

AeroPress Method

AeroPress is the Swiss army knife of brew methods. Its method is versatile, but its result is a delicate and silky mouthfeel every single time. By versatile, we mean that AeroPress coffee can be quite concentrated and espresso-like, or you can finish it with boiled water to approximate a pour-over. AeroPress combines immersion – where water and coffee grounds steep, like in a French press – and filtration, such as in a pour-over method using paper filters. The plastic device was invented by engineer and physicist, Alan Adler, who wanted a faster brew method using fine grinds than typical drip coffee.

Pour Over Method

You’ve heard us mention the pour-over method throughout this blog – and now, you can finally learn more about it! The pour-over method produces coffee with a delicate and smooth texture that resides somewhere between juicy and tea-like. A pour-over finds its flavor partly due to the filtration, which adds polish and clarity to the cup, and partly due to the amount of water used in relation to the ground coffee. Pour overs use medium-coarse grinds and are for anyone who appreciates a short morning ritual and a bit of experimentation.
